16 Mar Become a Jedi at ICONIC Detroit Institute of Arts
I was raised in and around New York City, my parents always brought my siblings and me to The Metropolitan Museum of Art, MoMa, The Frick and Museum of Natural History on the weekends. These places helped to shape the type of person I have come to be today.
I have a deep appreciation for art, and while I am not necessarily an artist, I do look at Detroit as an open canvas. So I was very excited to learn that last week’s most read article was on the upcoming exhibit to the Detroit Institute of Art, not because it is Star Wars, but because the DIA is simply amazing. The wealth of knowledge, creativity, and history that call museums home is something uniquely human. They offer an opportunity to time-travel, not the same type of time travel as in the Star Wars films, but an important step if we are ever going to achieve such feats. If you haven’t been to the DIA recently, do yourself a favor, grab your friends, family or a date and go, it will change your life. There is something there for everyone.
While I am not a devout fan of Star Wars I sure would have loved to see George Lucas bring his Lucas Museum of Narrative Art to Detroit, instead of Los Angeles and used Detroit as the canvas I call home. So next weekend, after you have recovered from celebrating your fractional heritage as an Irishman, you check out the DIA, learn what it is that makes you human and plants the seed for you or your children to become Jedis.
Thank you for reading, I look forward to hearing your thoughts on the topic, so please comment, email or call!
